General Questions

NamesGem is a marketplace for buying and selling domain names and websites. We provide a platform for sellers to list their domains and websites, and for buyers to find and connect with them. Unlike other marketplaces, we only charge a subscription fee and do not participate in the actual buying/selling process — NamesGem has no direct account or API connection with Escrow.com. Once a buyer and seller connect through a listing, they complete the entire transaction independently on escrow.com, outside of our website.

NamesGem differs from other domain marketplaces in several key ways:

  • We only charge a subscription fee, not a percentage of the sale
  • We don't participate in the actual buying/selling process
  • We recommend completing transactions on escrow.com, entirely outside our website, for maximum security
  • We provide a clean, user-friendly interface focused on both domains and websites
  • Our advanced search and filtering system makes it easy to find exactly what you're looking for

You can browse listings without an account, but you'll need to create an account to:

  • List domains or websites for sale
  • Contact sellers or make offers
  • Save listings to your watchlist
  • Participate in transactions

Creating an account is free and only takes a minute. Sign up here.

For Sellers

We offer two subscription plans:

  • Standard: $15/month or $100/year, unlimited listings
  • Featured: $25/month or $180/year, unlimited listings plus homepage placement

Visit our Pricing page for more details.

When listing a domain, you'll need to provide:

  • Domain name
  • Asking price
  • Category
  • Description
  • Registration date (optional but recommended)
  • Traffic statistics (optional but recommended)
  • Current use or development (optional)

The more information you provide, the more attractive your listing will be to potential buyers.

Domain transfers are handled according to Escrow.com's secure process:

  1. After the buyer makes payment to Escrow.com, you'll receive notification to transfer the domain
  2. You'll need to provide the authorization/EPP code to the buyer or unlock the domain for transfer
  3. For most domains, the buyer will initiate the transfer through their registrar
  4. Once the buyer confirms receipt of the domain, Escrow.com will release the funds to you

Detailed instructions are provided during the transaction process.

For Buyers

To make an offer:

  1. Navigate to the listing page of the domain or website you're interested in
  2. Click the "Make Offer" button
  3. Enter your offer amount and any message to the seller
  4. Submit your offer

The seller will be notified of your offer and can accept, reject, or counter it. You'll receive notifications about the status of your offer.

NamesGem is not involved in payment processing. We recommend buyers and sellers use Escrow.com directly:

  1. Once you agree to purchase, you and the seller open a transaction together directly on escrow.com
  2. You'll make payment to Escrow.com (not directly to the seller)
  3. Escrow.com holds the funds while the seller transfers the domain or website to you
  4. Once you confirm receipt and verify everything is as described, Escrow.com releases the payment to the seller

This process protects both buyers and sellers by ensuring that payment is only released when the buyer has received what they paid for.

Before purchasing, we recommend checking:

  • Domain age and history (using WHOIS lookup)
  • Traffic statistics (if provided)
  • Current search engine rankings
  • Any existing backlinks
  • Potential trademark issues
  • For websites: revenue verification, technology stack, and content quality

Don't hesitate to ask the seller questions through our messaging system before making a purchase.

Transactions and Escrow

Escrow.com provides security for both buyers and sellers by acting as a trusted third party:

  1. Buyer sends payment to Escrow.com (not directly to the seller)
  2. Escrow.com verifies the payment
  3. Seller transfers the domain or website to the buyer
  4. Buyer verifies receipt and confirms everything is as described
  5. Escrow.com releases the payment to the seller

This process eliminates the risk of non-payment for sellers and ensures buyers receive what they paid for before funds are released.

Escrow.com charges a fee based on the transaction amount. These fees are typically:

  • For transactions up to $5,000: 3.25% (minimum $32.50)
  • For transactions $5,000.01 to $25,000: 2.00%
  • For transactions $25,000.01 to $100,000: 1.45%
  • For transactions over $100,000: 0.89%

Fees are typically paid by the buyer but can be split between buyer and seller by agreement. Escrow.com determines and displays the exact fee on its own site, since this happens entirely off NamesGem.

Escrow.com accepts various payment methods including:

  • Wire transfer
  • Credit card (for transactions under $10,000)
  • PayPal (for transactions under $10,000)
  • ACH (US bank accounts only)

Available payment methods may vary based on your location and the transaction amount. The specific options will be displayed directly on escrow.com during your transaction.
